The Torch Reviews by Year 5, Macaulay School, Clapham

“I really enjoyed the play in a day! It was so fun! I mostly adored being a Greek god. I was really nervous at first when I was learning my lines. But when I’d finished learning them I wasn’t really nervous. I also really, really enjoyed doing the silent movie because it was funny and filled with action. I also enjoyed going into battle and chanting, ‘Who are ya, who are ya?’” – Anjola

“The play in a day we did was really fun. We did a play on the Olympics and how the gods stole the Olympic flame from the humans. We did lots of different things in the play, including silent movies about marathons that went wrong. Half the class was the Athenians and the other half was the Spartans and we ran into a pretend battle. It was really fun! I would definitely want to have another play in a day!” – Sylvia

“I enjoyed play in a day because I got one of the main parts as the god of love and got to do a dance in front of the whole school. The play was about the Olympics being reborn to the world and Pierre de Coubertin’s dream. It was about him reviving the Olympic games but it never got realised and he got too old. The play was also about the Athenians’ and the Spartans’ battles. Everyone in Year 5 was involved and Joe said, ‘It was great fun!’ He wants to do it again. Christopher Dewey said, ‘I liked acting it out to the school.’ Olivia said she enjoyed the play in a day because it helped her learn more about acting and the Olympics. Aiden said, ‘I particularly enjoyed it because I love acting. It was a great day.’” – Finn Usher-Harford

“On Monday 23rd January, Year 5 did a play in a day. At the start of the day we rehearsed the play. My favourite part of the day was when we (Spartan group) did the silent movie mimes. I was Lux Long, Joe was Jessie Owens, Eijon was Hitler and Soriah was the judge. I liked it when the other group (the Athenians) did mimes and made everyone laugh! Anjola was the god of wisdom, Kamose was the god of war, Sylvia was the god of womanhood and Finn Usher was the god of love.

I want to thank Dave, James and Ammie for a great day! It was a great day and it was so much fun!” – Romy
