The King’s Quest at St Johns and St Clements, East Dulwich
Last Friday Scene Change Theatre Company took King’s Quest to St John’s and St Clements Primary school in East Dulwich. The school had no space for us to work in the afternoon so the challenge was for us to work with the children both before and after the break and put on a performance by lunch. While it felt a little daunting, we actually found working in a much more focused way with the children was very effective and the children rose to the challenge. As the audience was filing in we were still having a “talked through” rehearsal. One thing that helped the children to focus even more was performing in costume. They really began to forget themselves and become the role of the characters they were playing. The children put on a fantastic performance at 12pm to the whole school and the comments from the teachers said it all. Their deputy head declared, “This is the best performance we have ever seen.” Well done all!
